When you are considering the pursuit of higher education then you have some options. Right off the bat, you can choose to pursue an associate’s degree or a bachelor’s degree. Both degrees have different things to offer and both could be excellent choices. Here is how you decide between the two.
What Career Do You Want?
Here’s an easy way to choose between a bachelor’s degree and an associate’s degree. What career do you want? Many times if you know what career path you want to take then this decision will be made for you.
Many career paths require one or the other so just pick the one that leads to the career you want. Some careers allow you to have either to get started in the field but more education will give you a better starting point. For now, just decide what career you want to pursue.
How Long Do You Want To Be In School?
If you work toward your associate’s degree full time then you will be done in two years and if you work toward your bachelor’s degree full time then you will be done in four years. So how long do you want to be in school? Do you want to get as much education as possible and get the full four years of education or do you want to get in and out so that you can start working sooner? There is no wrong answer here. Just honestly ask yourself how long you want to be in school before you can start working and what education level you want to start with.
How Much Do You Want To Pay?
When you go to school for twice as many years then you will be paying twice as much, or possibly even more than that. This doesn’t mean that going to school for 4 years is the wrong decision but that you need to realize this is part of the deal of more education. There is a lot of financial assistance out there but, even with that, how much do you want to pay for your education?
How Much Do You Want To Make?
This is a question that harkens back to the question about what you want to do for your career. Different careers offer different salaries and you want to know how much you will be making when you start working. You don’t need to pick the career with the highest salary, and you should know that impressive salaries can be found with both associate’s degrees and bachelor’s degrees, but you need to make sure that your time in school will be worth it.
You Can Always Get More Education Later
It’s true. You can always get more education later. This is especially relevant in those fields where either an associate’s degree or a bachelor’s degree will get you into the field. You can get started working and go to school to get the more advanced bachelor’s degree whenever you are ready. You can always take your education farther later but first you need to decide what’s right for you now.
